I just got back from a local yard and I'm finding the average mileage on retired 740s to be about 180,000. The highest I've seen, on a VERY clean '90 760 turbo, is 212,000. Checking about 10 others recently they're between 160,000 and 190,000. They've all been automatics and one was a backseat fire victim. The rest? Who knows what failed. I was looking over an '84 and found LOTS of disintegrated insulation on most of the under hood wiring but not on later models.
So I'm wondering, if a well (maniaclly?) maintained, unabused 740 is good for over 300,000 miles, can one assume that an ignored or casually maintain model's lifespan is in the 200k range?
