1990 760 turbo check engine light/ car stall 700

Completed a 100 mile trip three hours ago, in the snow. drove volvo perhaps one mile and it cut off, fired right back up, drove 400 yards, quit, fired right back up, check engine light comes on, park it, fires fine. when it cut the car was still on, the engine just quit, no rpm.
Any ideas, I really dont want to take her into the shop, $
