1989 760 Wagon Computer 700 1989

About 18 months ago I had a rebuilt engine installed, and 'coincidentally' the main circuit board blew, but I could still drive the car to the garage. I replaced it with a used part -- as part of the service from the garage. The other day I smelled the acrid smell of the board blowing again, and the car is now dead. Is there something inherently wrong with the electrical system to have the board blow so quickly, or is this just a fluke?
Thanks for your thoughts.
John
