Tail Shaft Diagnosis 200 1988

Greetings,

'Ole 88 has been whining at me when I get to about 40mph and I'm going to check the center bearing first and then the tail shaft bushing.

Would an accurate diagnosis consist of raising the car, indexing and then removing the driveshaft, then starting and revving the engine to see if the whine is still there? I'm thinking this would differentiate between the two possibilities and I'll have to do one or the other, not both.

Is there any way to harm my car by doing this? I wouldn't think so, but I'd like to be certain. Any feedback is much appreciated.......
