I purchased a 1985 Volvo 240DL 4-door sedan back in October 2003. I knew I would need to have some repairs made on it so I was not surprised when, at the beginning of December, the car died. I took it to an All Tune and Lube franchise for repairs as I also planned to have them tune it up, as well. They told me that the wiring harness had shorted out and would need to be replaced along with the EMC. They said that it would take a day to make the repairs. Several days passed and became weeks which became a month. Then they told me that the knock sensor had to be replaced. I had to find one for them. It is now January and my car still is still in the shop. I was told that they had a certified Volvo specialist, an electrician, and their auto mechanic working on it. I am will be picking up the car this Thursday and taking it to a repair shop that specializes in Volvos. On the average, what is the prognosis for cars with electrical problems? Do such repairs usually take a month? I'm a new car owner and very ignorant of the needs of very old cars. I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone can give me.
