78 Ball joint job gone bad 200

Went to replace the ball joints in my 78 last night and two of the four bolts holding it to the strut broke, one came out and the last rounded off. I guess I will remove the strut to drill out the bolts. I don't look forward to this and know there is the possiblity of things going wrong like broken taps-and damaged threads. I have an 89 strut assy sitting around. I know the hub/wheel bearings are different as well as the ball joint. The hub is no big deal but I wonder if it's possible to use it with the differnt ball joint 89 uses on the left side and have the alignment work out. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks, Grant
