Bizarre death of a radiator 700

Criusing along in my 1990 740 TurboWagon on the Interstate yesterday at about 80 mph. Suddenly, I see a cloud of moisture ERUPT from underneath my car. Get off the side of the road ASAP, steam is rolling out of the hood, and the temp gauge is near pegged.

Opened the hood, saw that I had, in the order of my "oh crap" discoveries, a split upper radiator hose and a shredded fan belt. And then, the biggest "oh crap", I see that the radiator hose has popped off the radiator at the clamping point. Then I see that it didn't actually pop off, it broke off so that part of the radiator is still clamped in the radiator hose. There's not enough "spout" left on the radiator to clamp to so I need a new radiator!!

Here's the theory from the shop. The fan belt broke, and whipped around with such force it that it split the radiator hose and snapped off the radiator connection all at the same time.

Any one ever heard of this?? Do I have a risk of any other damage? I got off the road and shut it down within 30 seconds, I should be okay, right?

Anyway, car is at a shop in NC, I've gotten a quote of about $750 for all parts and labor. Hope that's all.
