240 turbo struts 200

My car drives on the freeway like a boat in big swells. I have some Volvo struts in the trunk (been there three years, since I bought the car) and my local shop says they'll put them in for $100. I can rent the spring compressor for free at Auto Zone, but do I want to do this job? Is it as dangerous as I've heard? What about any other parts that should be replaced while it's apart?
