Low Coolant Sensor

The low coolant sensor light came on in my '96 960 several days ago. The outside temperature over the past several days has averaged 34-36 degrees. This happened once before and I simpy added coolant but I'm concerned that this might be a sign of a bigger problem ( leaking ).
