Rear seat latch broken 700 1987

Volvo 745 1987. The split rear passenger seat behind the driver's side cannot be lowered to form a cargo deck because the release mechanism is broken. I need to be able to remove the seat, disassemble it, replace what I think is a broken cable that releases the clamp on the left side and the one on the right side of the seat, and do this without destroying the leather upholstery. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has handled this problem.
