When I first bought my 1990 model 745 (UK spec) it had a Volvo 'CR-702' head unit which didn't function. I pulled it out with a view to getting it to work until I could fit my treasured Blaupunkt, and found it already to be disconnected. I found quite a few wiring connections in the dash, most of which I can identify, but the one in the right of the photo has me beat. It looks to be an original part of the wiring, but it has nothing to connect to. Bearing this in mind, I now have doubts that the 'CR-702' is the original stereo.
Also, the red crimped-on wiring connectors are a little confusing. Are they and the aforementioned wires ex-factory or has someone done a hatchet job on the wiring to fit an aftermarket stereo? They appear to have been fitted in the manner of the factory...
Can anyone help me figure this one out as I would like to fit the Blaupunkt myself, using an 'off the shelf' harness adaptor, but at the moment it looks as if a pro job will be needed. I have already fitted a DIN facia adaptor from www.autoleads.co.uk
