water leak - front vent cover and ? 900 1991

morning,

a few weeks ago, i posted a thread about a water leak and now that we've got the thing stripped down to the floor pan, i need a bit of advice as what exactly needs to be done.

so yesterday, we hosed the car down starting with the front grille at the base of the windshield. and that's as far as we got, as we starting to see water at the base of the front passenger footwell. unfortunately, we saw two leaks. the one we can postively ID is the ever-so-common front vent cover. the other leak came from somewhere above the first leak and behind the glove box and this is where i need a little help.

after reading another thread (http://brickboard.com/ARCHIVES/1998AUG/20009582.shtml), we narrowed it down to either:
A) from the sunroof via the A-pillar
B) from an out-of-place gasket on/by the front air intake

we're leaning towards the front air intake if only because we never sprayed water down the sunroof. i also partially removed the interior trim on the A-pillar and felt around, but everything seemed to be dry.

now we were able to get the panel containing the metal grille off and were able to see a black plastic cowl. looking underneath that cowl and to the right with a flashlight, i could see what looked like a duct that opened upwards with a a sort of plastic ring on the top that flares outwards.

i guess my question becomes: is that the air intake that the other thread speaks of (don wilson's post) and if so, how do i take the cowl off to get access to it? also, what needs to be done to the gasket to get it to stop leaking? caulk?

sorry for the longish post, and thanks for reading through. i just want to get the thing back up and running.

any advice is greatly appreciated.
