whining whirring salad-spinner sound

I have a noise coming from what sounds to be under the gear shift. It only happens when the driveshaft is spinning. Its not the front wheel bearings. It increases in pitch with speed. It is a whining whirring kind of noise like a salad spinner at high rpm.
