Passenger compartment air intake cleaning... 200 1990

...hi.

Could someone suggest the best and most effortless way to clean out the air intake to the car interior. I've noticed a big difference between fresh air intake and recirculating interior air. Is this normal or is there dirt build up somewhere?

Suggestions?
