Can I hook up main engine ground to bolt on motor mount bracket? 700 1990

I replaced my negative battery cable today and it is a totally different design from the original one on the car. The original cable went from the negative terminal down underneath the block and then who knows from there---maybe up to the alternator, I didn't trace it all the way. The new style cable is much shorter and also includes a bracket for the aluminum preheat hose to snap into. Both cables also have the short length of wire to chassis. In looking for a place to attach the new ground to the engine there were not a lot of choices because of the short cable length. So I unbolted a bolt that attaches the motor mount bracket to the block and bolted the ground to the bracket. The new ground cable is not touching the engine block but is on the side of the motor mount bracket. The bolt holding the bracket IS going into the block and it IS touching the grounding cable. My question is: Is this an acceptable way to attach the main engine ground, or should the ground actually be touching the block somewhere? Once again, I thank you since without brickboard I may have ended up driving some inferior car.
