Dear Brickmeisters--
My 1992 with 207k has both a leaky rear main seal and a sticky kickdown cable. A few weeks ago I thought I had located a donor car with an M47 to swap out. Now I'm not sure the car will be available.
But I've got to do something. I ran into someone who used to run a transmission shop--he worked on Volvos and here's what he said:
1. If the kickdown cable is sticking, it's usually wearing out. Good time to replace it while the transmission is out for a rear main seal.
So far so good. But then he said:
2. Those AW70 transmissions last a long time but they sometimes go all at once with no warning--you could get stuck on the Interstate. Are you sure you want to pay for a rear seal when you might have to replace the transmission in 3 months?
Hmmmmmm.
What's the Board's experience with this transmission? Can I count on getting hints from it before it dies completely?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
