Hi Board - I think I may have found an answer to my More Juice post from this morning - I found an 84 245Ti for sale:
189K miles/M46/PW/Leather.. leather is coming apart, largish dent in the left quarter panel near the bumper (possibly pushed out?) tires look iffy. No sunroof, which might be a deal killer. Everything works. Front and rear harnesses look fine. The car felt prety peppy and well planted, but the structure felt looser than my 242, normal, I expect.
Big question for you - the turbo really kicks on all at once, maybe 2,500rpm or so; nothing at all like the smooth engagement of our 90 744Ti/AW71 (small turbo), or my sister's 88 744ti/M46 (big turbo IIRC). Is that normal? And, is the whoopin and hollerin whistling noise from the turbo normal? It's seriously loud.
Confused on the price - they're asking $2,000, and the blue book for Fair condition is $625.
Is it madness to consider buying it, pulling the engine from intercooler to flywheel, to swap into my 242GT? ...then put the 80Kjet back into the wagon and send it away?
Interestingly, when I got back into my GT, I noted how much nicer it feels inside, and the power, while not the neck jerking on/off of the boost, feels pretty comparable. Maybe I just need to leave the GT alone for now.
If anyone else is interested in it at the price they're asking, let me know.
Thanks for any thoughts.
