rpm serge on '84gl (new to the board) 200

Hi, I've been snooping around for about two weeks now. This looks like a great site for good advice. I just inherited an 84 240gl. The body and interior are a bit faded but otherwise in good shape. No rust at all. 120K miles. When I got the car, it had been parked for about 2 years due to overall poor engine performance. So I had a bunch of work done on it. All new belts (timing, ac, ps, alt), fuel pre-pump and filter, distributor, #2 injector, spark plugs and wires, front engine seal and battery. It was running like a top for about 400 miles. We averaged 23.5 mpg driving through the mountains in CO.

Then I realized that the windsheild washer wasn't working. Bad wires and frozen pump. So I fixed that myself with a great deal of pride. As a bonus I also restored the cruise control and rear lid release!

Since then however, the engine serges at stop lights and while driving. I noticed this problem a day after the washer fix. It wasn't too severe but today it was really bad. I know that I have an ATF leak so I added a quart. That seemed to help but the problem is still there. I checked the ATF level with the car warm, running and in neutral. The level is okay. Is this just a coincidence?

TIA,
84 240gl auto 120K, 84 FJ60 224K
