I got my first Volvo last week and have been fixing it ever since. I put a new coil, cap, rotor and plugs. (wires ohmed just fine.) But the engine idles rather rough and some times up and down. When I apply the gas pedal it shudders a little before reving up. I checked for vacume leaks and came up with none. But I did notice the dip stick doesn't seal. I put in Bosh platnum WR7DCP and I've heard they maybe be prone to excessive fouling really easy. I ran a bottle of 3M injector cleaner through it. That didn't help much. It also hesitates at high RPM, some people think its a pluged CAT. I"m not too sure on that one. It has also been getting about 19 miles p/g. Which is pretty bad. It is missing the heat collector from the manifold so I'm not getting the heat I need in -10F. Which also is stoping the warm air valve from opening to the cold air side.
Then the temp guage only goes up maybe 1/3. Is that normal? In my friends 86 760 with the b230 it goes up more like about half. I don't want to replace the theromstat unless its bad since i've allready spent over $100 in parts in the first week. I also did the coolant temp sensor for the ECU. Since then is when the lower temp has been noted on the guage.
A few other notes. The flame trap is missing from its housing. Is that totally nessecary in a well working car? When I checked the voltage at the O2 sensor I got 2 readings in 3 minutes of.099v and .987v. I thought I was suppose to get like one every ten seconds. I'm guessing thats not what it should be. I checked the timing and it came out to 10degrees. So thats just fine. I also readjusted the throttle switch. Put in a new air filter. Thats all I can think of for now. Let me know.
