'91 240 Rear bushing rattle? 200

I replaced all of the bushings in the rear of my 91 240 last weekend. After about 30 miles, I got a light popping sound that is intermittently coming from both sides. I posted this earlier, but have since added new coil springs and replaced Bilstein Touring with Boge shocks - blamed it on the Bilsteins - still rattles. The Bilsteins were a bit loose, the Boges are snug. The ride is better with the Boges and new coil springs.

Everything has been retorqued at least 3 times. I see no evidence of metal to metal contact, except for a little rub above one torque rod at the front. The shock mounting studs are tight inside the subframe.

If I oriented the torque rod bushings improperly, could it allow them to flex enough to bounce against the sub frame? Can a torque rod be put in backwards? (I have reversed them several times as an experiment - no difference).

This is all I can think of - any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

David
