Brushes on External VR Alternator 200 1981

Brushes on External-VR Alternator, Non-turbo.

I need to remove the brushes from my alternator to examine them and look at the slip rings. Is removal and reinstallation a simple task? Or is there some trick to getting them back in there correctly? The alternator is in place, not on the bench.
