'84 245 acceleration/? problem 200

Howdy , Any feedback appreciated ...New to the site and don't fully understand the search engine...
here's the goods/bads ( symptoms..)
Without rhyme or obvious reason , and whatever the season , the car does not always respond to pressure applied to the gas pedal. It happens most predictably just after a cold start, and in the driving immediately following, and then at around 30, 40 and 60 mph. It usually does this for about 5-10 min. and then drives normally. However, the problem seems to intensify with time and now will act up after the wagon is warm and has been driven for over 30 min. Meaning, the wagon will hesitate at 60+mph and decelerate to around 45 mph, and will then resume power and repeat this behavior an unknown number of times. The whole time, my foot is pressing on the gas pedal it is completely unresponsive.
Answers to some potential questions;
* No one seems to know the cause of the problem, including reliable mechanics. So, nothing has been done mechanically to remedy the problem.
* The milage is 228, 000 miles, and it's an automatic transmission.
* The problem is erratic and will happen in rain, snow and hot summer, but happens most the morning after it has sat out in the rain or damp.
* The problem will happen one day, the disappear for a month, then reappear for a week, then disappear for a while then reappear for a while, etc... it's completely unpredictable.
* There are no obvious symptoms that accompany this problem, i.e. ... burnt smell, gas smell.
Ask any questions you might have . Thanks !
