Going to go to the junk yard looking for a replacement AC compressor. The one on my '80 245 DL (with power steering) has been dead for over 15 years, and I've been told by various shops that it needs to be replaced.
So, here are my questions.
I've heard that the compressors in the earlier 240s were junk, and the later ones were more solid. Which years should I be looking at? Will the later compressors fit in my '80 with out too much of a problem? I will be having to replace the power steering rack soon as well, so should I maybe do both of these at the same time (I.e.: pull a compressor and power steering rack from the same car)?
How about the R-134 compressor from a '93 240?
Would the compressors from a 700 fit? Do they work any better?
The rest of the components I'll probably buy new, but I just can't afford to spend $300 for a new compressor.
Thanks as always.
