Starter randomly engages while driving. Help!!!! 200 1983

Hey guys. Finally got my rebuilt '83 245 GL running and took it for a spin. Seemed relatively ok until 1/4 mile from home it started screaming from the starter suddenly trying to engage. This is a new starter. I had previously replaced it during my rebuild because the old one wanted to stay engaged all the time. Now this happened today. I had also replaced the ignition switch. Could this be the old '83 wiring? I have noticed it is crumbling. Could it be a bad ignition module? I may have just ruined a brand new starter. What is going on?
