Okay, who knows a reasonable 'Volvo God' mechanic in the Chicago area? 700 1989

Hello all,

I've got an '89 740 turbo with some driveability problems and a possible leaking head gasket or other coolant into oil (or vice/versa)leak. A guy in my neighborhood runs a filthy little import garage and I've had my 240 (now gone to the junkyard), and my 740 in to him but something about his attitudes regarding troubleshooting on Volvos doesn't inspire confidence. I had a guy in Athens, GA who worked on all imports and was one of those really nice honest guys who'd do your repair work and talk to you about the problem offer alternatives to fixing some things, etc. and best of all his prices were very reasonable. I had another guy in Athens replace my torque rod bushings to the tune of $350!!!! I'm trying to avoid that kind of highway robbery. Anyway, I checked out the Cartalk (NPR guys) website and found some recommendations for various reputable garages throughout Chicago, but I'm wondering if any brickboarders know a mechanic who seems to be divinely inspired when it comes to diagnosing and fixing the various problems unique to Volvos. Of course it'd be nice if this demi-god Volvo mechanic wouldn't want a blood sacrifice or your first born child for the repairs.

Thanks,
Matt Campbell
