Some time ago there was discussion lamenting the fact that the new D5 motor never made it to North America. Tonight I was looking at the Volvo penta site and came across this:

I believe this is the same engine. Its a 2.4 litre DOHC aluminum 5 cylinder turbo diesel. And for all I know it should be available anywhere. It comes with all the electronics. Some of the accesories would have to be replaced from the b6304. A lot of marine stuff would have to be removed but the engine is essentially there. Im sure the complete long block comes from the same assembly line as the D5. It looks like it has the same mounting points as the 6 cylinder. I don't know about the oil pan. This particular model is rated at 160HP at 4000RPM and 250 foot pounds at 1750 rpm! There are also 110 and 130 HP versions.
This would make a very unique conversion for a 960.
Is anybody familiar with the California laws concerning gasoline to diesel conversion? Im sure they would have a cow if put a boat engine in my car. How much does one of these cost? I assume $3000 to $5000 dollars. Probably not worth it but still sounds like a unique project.
