Struts making noise? 200 1987

When driving over bumps or dips, there is a scrunching/squeaking (for lack of a better word) noise coming from the left front of the car and now more recently I think it may be coming from both sides of the front of the car. I believe it is worse when it is colder outside. I am assuming it is because I need to replace the struts and they are the source of the noise. Is this possible, do they make noise when they wear out?
