buying question 700

I have an oppurtunity to get a 1988 760 model now my question is, was this a reliable car compared to the 90's 740 or not. I also believe these cars did not have the self diagnostics on them correct me if i am wrong but i want your guys thoughts on what you think of that model thanks.
