front bumper has a 5 mph crunch 700 1987

Has anybody been able to pull a bumper back out to its original position after it has had a minor bump on one side? The right front is pushed in 2 or 3 inches from doing what it was designed to do -- take a hit. But it stayed in. The rubber accordion side piece is compressed, but no sheet metal damage. Is there a way to free up the supports (is it a sliding tube design?) and back the bumper out, or maybe chain it to a tree and get up a little reverse momentum?
