244 Kickdown cable replacement 200

I plan to replace the kickdown cable on our AW70 equipped '92 244 this weekend. In a previous post Don Foster indicated that this job might require that the exhaust pipe be removed. I HATE working with the upper exhaust system; I always seem to break something. Short of dropping the tranny, is there any way to do replace the kickdown cable without messing with the exhaust pipe? TIA! Glen
