My observations at the junk yard- re: headlight wiring 900 1986

Following up on my previous posts about my headlights not working:

I discovered that the problem was related to a partially melted and burnt plastic adapter holding the stepping relay in the area above the brake pedal.

So I went to the yard looking for a new adapter. There must have been 8 Volvo that I searched and only one had a undamaged adapter; all the others had the same problem. There was even one Volvo that had a partially melted positive wire in the harness that feeds the driver's side headlight.

I was very surprised that so many 240 shared this problem.

What's causing the wires to heat up ?
I am thinking there must be a bad ground, increasing the overall resistance.
Where are the grounding points for the headlights?
