I replaced the rusty gas tank on my 86 245 ...
while removing the donor tank I had trouble with the ring clip connecting the filler tube to the tank. I ended up cutting out sheet metal above it for easier wrenching.
When I installed it in my car I went ahead and cut a hole in the metal with tin snips so I could fit my hand in there to get the ring connecter back on.
I then screwed a piece of scrap metal over the hole.
Not pretty, but then again neither is the body rust, worn bushings and torn seats.
new prepump and some fuel lines while i was at it.
the donor tank was pristine inside but had some exterior rust, I cleaned and painted it .
What is the device attached to the underbody above the rear differential housing connected to fuel line between filler neck and line to front of car? I took it off to inspect/clean it. if shook it rattles inside.
searched archives, no luck
