Battery and Check oil light stay on after car has been turned off and keys have been removed 200

The 'check oil'and 'check battery' ligths stay on after the car has been turned off and the keys have been removed. The lights turn off as soon as the car is turned on. Short suspected somewhere in the wiring.Just want to know if this problem might be an idosyncracy with the late 240. I have a '93 240 with 191,000 miles.
