Yesterday I drove a 2000 S70 T-5 at my local volvo dealership. Nice - but the engine compartment scared the daylights out of me. Also, I couldn't believe how cramped the interior of the car is. Much smaller than my 940s or my father-in-law's S90. Ok - S70 ruled out. The S90 - reliability issues worry me about this model - but I feel it's the year model volvo I would ever buy, as it's the last of the RWD platform. And there's one in my family that I could pursue. But the fear of that engine...
OK - my question. I say to my wife, "wife, if you could have any car, what would you want?" She says, "mercedes". Meekly, I say "...ok...but..." (to myself, wonder if being a mercedes owner would be a financial nightmare)
THE QUESTION: I want something - any luxury type RWD platform - I can learn to love (as the primary mechanic - love as in the car needs to be super reliable, parts cost shouldn't kill me, availability of parts shouldn't defeat me, and performing the maintenance is doable).
What are the choices out there? Love to hear your opinions. Especially on specific makes and models you guys like / as well as makes and models you recommened one stays away from.
