Turbo Squealing 700 1988

My '88 760 turbo/intercooler (B230F) just started squealing under turbo boost. Sounds really bad, is this a leak in a hose or have the turbo fins/bearings gone bad. The turbo is original and the car has 117,000 miles. What options do I have, if the turbo is gone? Live with it? Relace it? Can I do this on my own? (I've retrofitted my A/C a couple of years ago with new compressor, OK on level of difficulty for me.)I beleive I have a Garrett T3 tic.
