Lovely day in the PNW.
Since my last post on the leaky Nissens in the 85 245Ti, I decided to save
my cash and buy a new rad. I took the plunge and bought another imported
3-row radiator.
A CSF model 1431!!! Yeah I know no one likes Asian stuff.
$160 delivered. Yeah I know not much less than Nissens at around $195
delivered.
Came in one day. Looks good, looks beefier than the Nissens. Looks bigger
than the Nissens! The tanks ARE wider. Doesn't have the exact cool fully
screw in AC fan switch, but it does have the screw in top clamp type.
Luckily I had a press fit thermal switch which fit fine and the gland nut
should do a great job holding it in place.
Took me less than an hour to drill holes, swap the electric fan on. Had to
adapt it a bit differently on the bottom. It fit the clamps well. All went
well.
Weird thing? After one gallon of coolant and one gallon of water, it still
had volume to fill. And I didn't even drain the block!! This NEVER happened
with the Nissens. The Nissens maxed out a little less than 2 gallons total
volume. The CSF and system took over 11 qts!!!
Car runs and boosts and cools GREAT. It behaves better than designed. No
leaks either.
So, for me the Nissens was just a dud. I wonder if the tubes even had
problems from the factory. Maybe someday I'll pop the tanks apart, but not
for awhile!
