240 vs. 940/960 (forums) 200

Wow. I just popped into the 940/960/S90/V90 forums (quite a mouthful) to see what those owners had to say about their cars.

I wandered over there because in the past I've said to my parents and my friends that the only car I would realistically get to replace my 240 is a 960. The draw of the horsepower and torque, plus V6, plus luxury stuff that's beginning to fade (but still there!) in my 1989 240 GL, made it seem to me that the car would be like the box, but better.

However, reading a few of the posts made me seriously reconsider that desire. Their seems to be a huge dissent among some 900-series owners that the cars were cheapened. Even one of the posters (probably a 240 driver, but still) loudly proclaimed that the later 240s were some of the best cars ever, better than the V6s of the 1970s!

I was really surprised to find so many people unhappy with their cars. Here on the 240 forums, it seems that everyone absolutely loves their car. Any posts to the contrary are usually by one-time trolls who have not yet come to appreciate Volvo cars. However, it seemed like those on the 900 forums were regular posters, frequently back with their latest problem!

Seeing all of that made me feel a little bit better about driving a 15-year-old car, instead of a brand-new one that's got a broken sunroof, messed up windshield squirters, or a host of other problems. My car is just simple.

What do you guys think about that? Anyone here absolutely prefer the 900s over the 200s? Or am I right in this perception that there are some pretty discouraging problems with the last RWD car made by Volvo?
