Marine B-30 Engine; Single-Weight Oil Taboo? 140-160

Greetings All!
A buddy of mine recently pulled the Volvo AQ-170 engine from his '69 boat and gave it to me. As many of you know, this is the nautical version of the
B-30 164 auto engine--with differing carburretion. On the valve cover--still legible--is a factory sticker reading, "Use Multigrade Oil Only".
Now, I have never seen such a warning on an automotive B-30. What could be the reason for it on the boat engine? Something to do with extreme humidity and condensation in marine use perhaps? Comments please.

Gary in Arizona
