Making sure I REALLY need to pull and rebuild the M46 OD..... 700 1989

I have read everything I can find from Duane on the OD. My symptom is the OD works for a bit when cold but in a few minutes slips out.
The light in the dash works, I assume the solenoid is OK since it engages.
I changed the fluid and added s bottle of PROLONG. Unfortunately for $14.99 it did not work (well maybe I got another minute of time in OD).
Pulled the bottom cover and cleaned the filter. Nothing there, no metal bits.
So after 358,000 miles it seems to me I need to replace the actuating piston seals.
Is there any test I can make to verify this?

Of couse at this time I am wondering if pulling the entire tranny and replacing the clutch would be a good idea too.
I would like to do this all myself, but it's been years (like 27) since I replaced a clutch.
Anyone done a clutch?
Should I pull the OD off first?
Am worried about seperating them, since i have no OD putting it in OD and letting it coast to stop will not work.
Should I use the in reverse- clutch dump- stall method?

Duane, can I get these parts from you?

Gettin warm, so gotta fix the cars (and the house and the yard....)
