Front Brake Problem...and a WARNING!! 700 1989

About 6 months ago, I replaced the front Girling Non-ABS calipers with rebuilt ones (and even painted them RED), new Zimmerman rotors, new PBR brake pads and ATE dot4 fluid. I also used (here's the crux of the matter) stainless teflon coated shims to reduce squeel. BUT then things went wrong.
One of the shims was pushed forward enough so that a corner of it cut a 1mm deep groove around the axle part of the rotor (not the braking surface). I've repaired it tonight, but was wondering if I should get another rotor? The automotive instructor thought it would be OK, but I'm paranoid. I'm afraid that during hard braking around a corner, the rotor will split and leave me in a compromising position.
So..should I replace it or not? If so, should I do both??
WARNING: BE SURE THAT THE SHIMS ARE NOT PUSHED FORWARD ENOUGH TO RUB ON THE AXLE OF THE ROTOR.
Gracias,
el Raidman
