Flame trap housing question! 900 1996

On the side of the flame trap housing, there is a nipple leading to the vacuum motor. What is its function? Since I had a wet flame trap, I installed a small in-line filter few months ago to trap oil going to vacuum motor. After realizing how much oil was trapped in the filter housing, I just wonder what would happen if they went down to the vacuum motor.
