Noisy Transmission 120-130

The 4 spd manual trans in my 64 122 is very noisy, especially in 2nd and 3rd gear. I had the fluid changed and it didn't help. The trans appears to be original, not an overdrive unit, and shifts very smooth, no problems other than noise. The car only has 83K original miles on it, but I believe the previous owner used the car for towing since the rear bumper has holes from a hitch.

What would be the least expensive way out, replace the trans with a known good used one or is it better to just have this one rebuilt? What is a good price for a rebuild? What about if I wanted to install an OD unit?
