Fuel Injector o-rings 200 1985

Hello - I have a 1985 DL 240 series, LH jetronic 2.2. Can anyone please tell me how the spray test is performed to test the o-rings. I read on this site to use either wd-40 or carb cleaner and spray it on the injector o-ring. Is that the upper o-ring and the lower o-ring? Is the test supposed to advance the enhgine or retard the engine? Also - is it ok to use vaseline on the new o-rings to install them? If not, can you please tell me what to use and where to purchase it.
