Kick-back cable loose 200 1989

I noticed that my kick-back cable was loose. I followed the FAQs section about pulling and letting loose the cable. It seemed to work - until I reinstalled the cable on the throttle. Now it's loose again. I really don't want to replace the cable. Any ideas?
