85 740 wagon - ZF or aw trans? 270K on a ZF trans??????

Hey all!

Looking at a 1985 740 wagon with 271,000 at an auto auction this weekend. I am assuming that all the eary 740s had the dreaded ZF trans. But on the positive side someone put 271,000 on this thing - it must run!

It's a charity tpye auction and I am hoping to get this car for under $200. I can't imagine how it could be bid for much more as they don't let you drive them, just start-up and look over!

I need Volvo number 56 !!! I really want an 97 850 wagon that needs work and is cheap............
