I need some advice, suggestions.
On my wife's car, a '93 240 with ABS that we bought a few months ago, it has developed an unusual sensation, but very subtle, while braking -- as you step on the brake pedal, there is a feeling during the pedal's stroke that the pedal is going to "floor" for about a 1/2" or so of the travel before it firms up again and gets a reassuring hardness. Or, in other words, the resistance as you step on the pedal isn't a consistent resistance, but rather briefly firm, then soft (or spongy) and then hard again.
I've got 30 years of 164 and 240 ownership experience (although this is my first ABS-equipped car), have done my own brake jobs (m/c through caliper/rotor work) throughout, and have encountered the occasional failed m/c, etc. -- and yet I've never felt this inconsistent feel before. Needless to say, the brake fluid has been flushed (using positive pressure, not vacuum), and there's no loss of fluid.
Could this be a stubborn air bubble that I haven't been able to flush yet, or a bad m/c, or (because I'm not experienced with this) merely the normal effect of the ABS system?
