Idle problems/ hesitation 200

Hello! Hopefully someone can help us. We have a 1985 240 Wagon with LH 2.2 Jetronic FI. We were having extreme driveability problems and narrowed it down to the Air Mass Meter. Replacement got the car out of the driveway, but we have yet to fine tune this machine. Idle fluctuates between 1100-1500 RPM but not erratically. At times when we floor it, we experience hesitation, as if there is water in the fuel. We have checked the Idle Air Control Valve, which is functioning. The PCV is functioning. As far as we can tell, the flame trap is unrelated. All our sensors check out,(by virtue of tests done thru the ECU). We have three exhaust leaks, one substantial at the cat. This car passed emissions testing with flying colors, but we see occasional, nasty, grey smoke, (running rich?). There is gas in the oil. This car sat for two years before we bought it, and ran fine for the first five hours, but then just went haywire. It seems that our problems involve every possible component of the motor. Other than cleaning the throttle body, what other components can be tested? We are desperate!
