1984 OVERDRIVE 700

My overdrive was not working and so I replaced the overdrive relay. What seems to be happening is that when I engage the overdrive it seems that the car goes into a lower gear. This can be seen by an increase in the tach by about 500 rpm. When I disengage the overdrive the tach falls by 500rpm.
