Some things have a sort of mythical reputation on the board. The aluminum tailgate in late model 245s (no way), the awfulness of Nivomats (not a bad ride) and the hell of the blower motor (not too dirty).
Pulled the glovebox, radio, center vents and main instrument cluster. Pulled the center console back, then the center support frame back, no wires disconnected really. Then off with the blower outer covers while pulling the ducting a bit to the sides, then off with the fans and inner covers and the motor is easily removed with the resistor. The ground is inconvenient but doable. Vacuum lines are more likely to unplug than wire connections. Watch both. Voila. Beats the hell out of doing a clutch!
3 tricks:
1) only remove or move the above mentioned items
2) the clips slide along the housing channel to an accessible point for you to remove them easily. Remove the two dozen clips to the blower housing
3) remove the 6 clips you missed and swore could not possible still be there.
Make sure the fans turn freely before reassembling. Enjoy.
