760 gle oil choice 700 1988

Hi.
Just got a 760 gle v6 with 79000miles. Would it be of any advantage to use synthetic instead of mineral? I've read the post "synthetic oil" by anastasialk and concluded that if synthetic doesn't coke as easily , and by its nature causes less friction then its mineral equivalent it must be better to use it all the time. How about a Castrol GTS magnatec, would it really extend the engine life ? ( any info would be greatly appreciated as i'm not that technically minded)
